MYR Group Inc. (MYR) is demonstrating formidable financial strength, with its latest quarterly figures revealing substantial outperformance. A strategic emphasis on high-growth sectors is fueling this success, even as the stock experiences a near-term price correction.

Stellar Quarterly Outperformance

The company’s Q2 2025 earnings report delivered a significant positive surprise. Earnings per share (EPS) surged to $1.70, soundly beating the consensus analyst forecast of $1.56. Revenue climbed to $900.33 million, marking an 8.6% year-over-year increase and comfortably exceeding projections of $828.20 million.

Soaring Profitability and a Robust Backlog

This impressive top-line growth translated directly into enhanced profitability. The gross profit figure skyrocketed to $103.7 million for the second quarter of 2025, a dramatic rise from the $40.8 million recorded in the same period last year. Consequently, the gross margin expanded significantly to 11.5%, up from 4.9%, highlighting markedly improved operational efficiency and the successful execution of highly lucrative projects.

Supporting future revenue visibility, the company’s current backlog stands at a substantial $2.64 billion.

Key Q2 2025 Financial Metrics:
* EPS: $1.70 (surpassing estimates by $0.14)
* Revenue: $900.33 million (an 8.6% year-over-year increase)
* Net Income: Achieved a record $26.5 million
* EBITDA: Reached a record high of $55.6 million

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying MYR?

Strong Institutional Backing and Share Buybacks

Confidence in MYR is evident among major investors. Institutional entities have been aggressively increasing their stakes. Next Century Growth Investors LLC raised its holding by 1.9%, while the State of Wyoming amplified its position by a remarkable 544.5% in the first quarter. Collectively, institutional investors now control 88.90% of the company’s shares.

Further underscoring management’s belief in the company’s value, a new $75 million share repurchase program was announced in late July. With available liquidity of $383 million, MYR retains ample financial flexibility to continue pursuing its growth initiatives alongside the buyback.

Stock Momentum and Analyst Outlook

Although the share price declined by $4.26 to close at $187.27 on Monday, key technical indicators suggest the overarching upward trend remains intact. The stock continues to trade above its 50-day moving average of $186.64 and its 200-day moving average of $153.32.

MYR commands a market valuation of $2.91 billion, with a P/E ratio of 39.10. The analyst consensus continues to be favorable, maintaining a “Moderate Buy” rating. The average price target is $191.83, with recent bullish sentiment including KeyCorp raising its target from $205.00 to $211.00 and reaffirming its “Overweight” recommendation.

Capitalizing on the Data Center Expansion

A pivotal driver for MYR’s growth strategy is the exponentially expanding data center market. Industry forecasts suggest data centers could account for up to 9% of total U.S. electricity consumption by 2030. MYR is strategically positioned to benefit from this boom, particularly through its subsidiary, Sturgeon Electric, which was recently awarded a major $90 million data center construction project.
