ASML Shares Surge on Renewed Chip Sector Optimism Fueled by Nvidia-Intel Partnership

A surprising $5 billion investment by Nvidia into Intel has ignited fresh optimism across the semiconductor industry, with one particular Dutch equipment specialist emerging as a clear beneficiary. ASML, the monopoly supplier of extreme ultraviolet (EUV) lithography systems, is witnessing a significant surge in investor interest. The critical question for markets is whether this renewed confidence is fundamentally justified or merely speculative enthusiasm.

Strategic Alliance Signals Industry Shift

The agreement between longtime rivals Intel and Nvidia extends well beyond a simple capital injection. This unexpected partnership encompasses three crucial technological areas that have significant implications for advanced manufacturing capacity:
– Development of custom x86 CPUs by Intel specifically for Nvidia’s AI infrastructure
– Joint creation of x86 system-on-chips incorporating Nvidia’s RTX GPU components
– Deeper technological integration through Nvidia’s NVLink interconnect technology

This collaboration potentially translates into increased demand for ASML’s equipment, particularly if Intel expands its foundry operations under Nvidia’s influence. As the sole producer of the EUV lithography machines required for manufacturing cutting-edge semiconductors, the Dutch company occupies an indispensable position in the entire production ecosystem.

Major Bank Revises Price Target Upward

In immediate response to these developments, Bank of America significantly raised its price target for ASML shares from €724 to €941—one of the most substantial increases observed in recent months. This revision reflects expectations of increased sales of ASML’s advanced systems to both Intel and SK Hynix. The underlying rationale is straightforward: a more competitive Intel translates to greater demand for high-performance chips, whose production is entirely dependent on ASML’s EUV technology.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying ASML?

AI Expansion Drives Fundamental Recovery

After having largely missed the initial wave of AI-driven market excitement, ASML is now experiencing a pronounced recovery. The company benefits through dual channels: directly through increased demand for advanced semiconductors powering AI applications, and strategically through investments such as its €1.3 billion stake in French AI firm Mistral AI.

Further positive indicators come from TSMC, which is projected to increase its capital expenditures for 2026 and 2027 to beyond $50 billion. These factors collectively reinforce the credibility of ASML’s growth narrative and suggest sustained demand for its equipment.

Quarterly Report to Provide Crucial Test

The true test for ASML arrives on October 15 with the release of its quarterly earnings report. Market participants will scrutinize booking trends for EUV systems, monitor progress on High-NA technology implementation, and pay particular attention to management’s guidance for 2026.

The central question remains whether ASML can effectively leverage its monopolistic position in lithography to generate sustainable long-term growth, or if current optimism will diminish in the face of broader macroeconomic uncertainties. Current developments, however, appear to be aligning favorably for the technology leader.
