Fuel Cell Stocks Surge as Bloom Energy Secures Major Financing

The hydrogen and fuel cell sector is experiencing a powerful resurgence, with Bloom Energy leading the charge. Shares of the solid oxide fuel cell manufacturer skyrocketed, closing Friday’s session with a gain exceeding 13 percent. During the trading day, the stock briefly approached the psychologically significant $100 threshold. This dramatic move was catalyzed by the company’s announcement of a substantial new $600 million revolving credit facility arranged with Wells Fargo.

Sector-Wide Momentum Builds

Bloom Energy’s rally is part of a broader industry recovery at the start of the new trading year. Several key players in the alternative energy space posted significant advances alongside it:
* Plug Power shares advanced by 12.6 percent.
* FuelCell Energy saw an increase of 11.7 percent.
* Ballard Power registered a gain of 5.5 percent.

This coordinated upward movement suggests a rotation of investor capital into companies positioned to provide off-grid power solutions for energy-intensive applications, such as data centers.

New Credit Line Alleviates Investor Concerns

The primary driver behind Bloom Energy’s explosive price action is the enhanced financial flexibility provided by the new credit agreement, finalized in late December. The $600 million facility from Wells Fargo effectively removes a major overhang for the stock by addressing recent investor anxiety regarding capital access. The funding is expected to support the company’s expansion plans, particularly for projects related to artificial intelligence data centers.

Market activity reflected the heightened interest, with trading volume surging to over 11.5 million shares on Friday. This figure stands well above the stock’s average volume of approximately 8 million shares.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Bloom Energy?

Analyst Perspectives and Valuation Context

The developments have prompted updated assessments from market analysts. Clear Street Research raised its price target on Bloom Energy from $50 to $58 per share, while maintaining a “Hold” rating. Meanwhile, Daiwa Capital Markets initiated coverage with a “Hold” recommendation and a $98 price target—a level the stock is currently testing. The consensus price target on TipRanks sits near $113, indicating further potential upside according to analyst models.

The company’s valuation remains ambitious, with a market capitalization around $23 billion pricing in significant future growth despite ongoing losses. For the third quarter of 2025, Bloom Energy reported a 57 percent year-over-year revenue increase to $519 million. However, it posted a net loss of $23 million for the period, while achieving a solid gross margin of 31 percent.

Technical Breakout and Next Resistance

From a chart perspective, the stock has decisively broken out of a recent consolidation phase. After weeks of trading between $79 and $96, it has now pushed to new highs. The critical technical test will be whether it can achieve a sustained foothold above the $100 level. A failure to hold support above $90, however, could signal a classic bull trap, especially given the stock’s history of high volatility.

This recovery follows a significant pullback of 46 percent from the peaks reached in October. Those earlier highs were fueled by enthusiasm around a partnership with Brookfield Asset Management, which could channel up to $5 billion toward AI data center projects. The new credit facility strengthens Bloom Energy’s capacity to execute on these ambitious initiatives.
