HBT Financial Stock Surges as Strategic Acquisition Nears Completion

Shares of HBT Financial have recently climbed to a new 52-week peak of $29.37, propelled by a dual announcement of a pending strategic acquisition and a significant dividend increase. This momentum raises the question of whether the bank can solidify its competitive position across Illinois and Iowa.

Analyst Confidence and Shareholder Rewards

Market sentiment received a boost in January when analysts at Raymond James upgraded HBT Financial’s stock to an “Outperform” rating, setting a price target of $30. They cited a favorable risk-reward profile, with the pending acquisition seen as a primary catalyst for reaching that valuation.

Concurrently, the company’s board has demonstrated confidence in its capital strength by approving a 9.5% hike in the quarterly cash dividend. The payout rises to $0.23 per share, which annualizes to $0.92. At recent price levels, this translates to a dividend yield of approximately 3.1%. Shareholders must own the stock by the ex-dividend date of Monday, February 9, to qualify for the increased distribution, which will be paid on February 17.

Acquisition Enters Final Phase

The core of HBT Financial’s growth strategy is now on the final straight. The bank has secured all necessary regulatory approvals for its purchase of CNB Bank Shares, following shareholder approval at the target firm in late January. Management anticipates finalizing the transaction on February 27.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Hbt Financial?

This integration is expected to reinforce the bank’s relationship-based business model and unlock operational synergies within the region, providing a platform for sustained expansion.

Capital Return Strategy Extends Beyond Dividends

Further supporting the share price is a newly authorized share repurchase program. The company can buy back up to $30 million of its own stock through January 2027. This initiative is already underway; in the final quarter of 2025, HBT Financial repurchased nearly 24,000 shares at an average price of $24.33.

Quarterly Performance Meets Expectations

The positive developments are underpinned by solid financial results. For the fourth quarter of 2025, HBT Financial reported net income of $18.9 million. Earnings per share came in at $0.64, squarely meeting market expectations. The bank maintained a robust return on equity of 13.69%.

All eyes are now on the successful technical and operational integration of the two institutions slated for the end of February, which will be the next critical test for the company’s ambitious growth plans.
