All eyes are on Rigetti Computing as the quantum computing specialist prepares to release its fourth-quarter and full-year 2025 financial results after today’s market close. While expectations remain modest, recent positive momentum from competitor IonQ has injected a degree of cautious optimism into the sector. Investors are keenly focused on the company’s hardware delivery timeline and the potential for securing larger commercial contracts.

Sector Momentum and Stock Performance

The quantum computing sector recently received a boost from IonQ’s stronger-than-anticipated earnings report, providing a tailwind for related equities, including Rigetti. Despite this short-term lift, Rigetti’s stock remains under significant pressure. Since the start of the year, its shares have declined by more than 27 percent, currently trading around €14.60. This price stands far below its 52-week high of €48.36. The stock’s 30-day volatility, exceeding 100 percent, underscores the pervasive uncertainty characterizing this emerging industry.

Financial Forecasts and Hardware Delays

Market analysts project a fourth-quarter 2025 loss of $0.03 per share on revenue of $2.33 million. This would represent a modest year-over-year sales increase of 2.6 percent—a relatively slow pace for a field built on substantial long-term promises.

A central concern for tonight’s earnings call is the delayed deployment of the 108-qubit Cepheus-1-108Q system. Initially scheduled for late 2025, its launch has been pushed to the end of March 2026, a shift the company attributes to extended validation processes. This delay intensifies the scrutiny on Rigetti’s ability to meet its revised deadlines.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Rigetti?

However, a significant order from India’s Centre for Development of Advanced Computing offers a promising development. The $8.4 million contract for a 108-qubit system marks the first major deal for this architecture and could serve as a reference for future business with research institutions. The timing of when this revenue will be recognized remains unclear, and its clarification could materially impact the revenue consensus for 2026, which currently sits at $21.3 million.

Strategic Partnerships and Future Roadmap

Investors will also seek updates on Rigetti’s strategic initiatives and technical milestones. The company’s collaboration with NVIDIA on the NVQLink platform, aimed at integrating classical and quantum computing infrastructure, continues to progress. In contrast, Rigetti was eliminated from an early phase of DARPA’s Quantum Benchmarking Initiative.

The long-term hardware roadmap presents ambitious targets: a system exceeding 150 qubits by the end of 2026, followed by a 1,000-qubit machine by the end of 2027. A key question for management during the conference call will be whether these goals remain achievable, providing a crucial gauge of the company’s competitive trajectory in the rapidly evolving quantum landscape.
