Hamburger Hafen und Logistik AG (HHLA) reported robust growth in its latest quarterly results, fueled by surging trade with China. Container handling rose by 10.2% year-over-year to 1.63 million TEUs, while group revenue climbed 13.2% to €448.9 million. Operating profit also saw a 13% increase to €46.8 million, though net profit dipped to €11.2 million due to higher costs. The company’s half-year figures were equally impressive, with revenue jumping 16.3% to €884.5 million and operating profit soaring 34.8% to €79.4 million. Despite geopolitical tensions and a sluggish German economy, HHLA benefited from rerouted shipments amid Red Sea disruptions, with increased cargo from European ports like Belgium and the Netherlands.

Leadership Shifts and Strategic Moves

A recent management reshuffle saw the departure of its long-time CEO, with a new leader set to take the helm in October. The controversial entry of a major global shipping firm as a stakeholder appears to be paying off, driving additional cargo volumes, particularly from Asia. While HHLA slightly adjusted its full-year EBIT forecast to €195–215 million, the overall outlook remains positive. However, the company cautioned that trade tensions and regional conflicts could dampen growth in the latter half of the year. Investors will be watching closely to see if HHLA can sustain its momentum.
