Microsoft finds itself at a critical juncture, simultaneously managing a major operating system transition while aggressively expanding its artificial intelligence capabilities. The technology giant has officially concluded free support for Windows 10, creating both challenges and opportunities for its strategic direction.

Quarterly Results to Reveal Strategy Impact

All eyes turn to October 29, when Microsoft will disclose first-quarter financial results for fiscal year 2026. These figures will provide crucial insight into how the Windows 11 upgrade cycle and substantial AI investments are translating into financial performance. The timing appears favorable, with Baptista Research recently expressing confidence by upgrading Microsoft shares from “Hold” to “Buy.”

Windows 10 Support Concludes

October 14, 2025, marked the end of an era as Microsoft discontinued free security updates for Windows 10 after a decade of service. The final patch addressed an impressive 172 security vulnerabilities, including six critical zero-day threats. This development leaves millions of users with three clear options: upgrade to Windows 11, purchase new hardware, or subscribe to paid Extended Security Updates.

The decision has generated significant controversy, with protesters gathering outside Microsoft’s European Union headquarters to voice concerns about forced upgrades and potential electronic waste. Despite these objections, the company maintains its position while strategically timing its next moves.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Microsoft?

Artificial Intelligence Expansion Gains Momentum

Coinciding with the Windows transition, Microsoft unveiled MAI-Image-1, its first proprietary AI image generator. This launch signals a strategic shift toward reducing dependency on partners like OpenAI while strengthening internal AI capabilities. The company further bolstered its AI infrastructure through a substantial computing capacity agreement with Nscale in Portugal, featuring Nvidia’s latest AI chips.

Another strategic announcement emerged the same day: beginning in early 2026, Microsoft 365 Copilot will offer local data processing within the United Arab Emirates. This move directly addresses stringent data protection and AI regulations, positioning Microsoft favorably for government contracts and regulated industry clients.

The central question remains whether Microsoft can successfully balance mandatory Windows migration with voluntary enthusiasm for its AI innovations, a challenge that will define the company’s trajectory in coming quarters.
