Telecom Argentina S.A. finds itself operating within a challenging economic landscape, presenting a complex picture of financial performance in its latest earnings report. The company’s consolidated first-half 2025 results reveal a substantial net loss of 75,554 million Argentine pesos, yet simultaneously demonstrate remarkable revenue expansion across key business segments.

Revenue Strength Amid Economic Pressures

Despite reporting significant losses, the telecommunications provider achieved impressive top-line growth, with consolidated revenues surging 44.2 percent to reach 3,357,004 million ARS. This substantial increase is particularly noteworthy given Argentina’s highly inflationary environment. A crucial factor driving these results has been the integration of Telefónica Móviles Argentina (TMA), which has been included in the financial statements for the past four months and has affected year-over-year comparability.

The company reported consolidated service revenues of 3,160,986 million ARS. This strategic consolidation has substantially altered Telecom Argentina’s revenue streams and competitive positioning within the market.

Profitability Metrics Show Divergent Trends

Operational performance indicators revealed strength in certain areas, with earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA) reaching 1,007,153 million ARS. This represents a healthy EBITDA margin of 30.0 percent, indicating improved operational efficiency despite challenging market conditions.

In a surprising development, the company’s second-quarter 2025 earnings per share (EPS) came in at -$0.0378, significantly outperforming analyst expectations of -$0.074 by an impressive 48.92 percent. While quarterly revenue of $1.45 billion fell short of the $1.65 billion consensus estimate, the better-than-anticipated EPS figure suggests enhanced cost management measures.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Telecom Argentina?

Divergent Performance Across Business Units

The company’s mobile services segment demonstrated extraordinary growth, with revenues exploding by 71.2 percent to 1,604,897 million ARS, establishing this division as Telecom Argentina’s most significant business unit. Fixed-line and data services also showed solid performance, advancing 27.9 percent to 394,652 million ARS.

Key operational metrics highlight the company’s market position:
* Consolidated customer base: 23.6 million existing customers (excluding TMA) plus 19.3 million TMA subscribers
* Postpaid segment growth: Increased 1.1 percent despite a slight decline in overall mobile connections
* Pay TV and broadband services: Expanded 2.3 percent to 3.2 million subscribers and 1.5 percent to 4.1 million customers respectively
* TMA integration impact: Mobile connections grew 2.5 percent while broadband subscriptions increased 6.0 percent

Regulatory Developments Create New Opportunities

Argentina’s telecommunications regulator, Enacom, recently announced the allocation of frequency spectrum in the 2300-2400MHz range for private mobile networks. This regulatory shift may present Telecom Argentina with new expansion opportunities for both indoor and outdoor network solutions.

Market reaction to the August 13 second-quarter earnings release was notably positive, with shares advancing 2.17 percent despite the reported losses. Investors appear to be recognizing the company’s improved financial discipline and operational growth within key segments of its business.
