In a significant vote of confidence for the quantum computing sector, analysts at investment bank TD Cowen initiated coverage of D-Wave Quantum on Thursday with a buy recommendation. The firm’s research highlights D-Wave’s leadership in quantum annealing technology and points to substantial growth potential ahead.

Robust Financials and Strategic Position

TD Cowen’s optimistic stance is underpinned by D-Wave’s commanding presence in the quantum annealing market. The analysts project that expansion will be fueled primarily by sales of the company’s high-margin Advantage systems and its cloud services portfolio.

Recent financial performance supports this outlook. Over the last twelve months, D-Wave has reported a remarkable 156.2 percent surge in revenue, accompanied by an impressive gross margin of 82.8 percent. The company’s balance sheet remains strong, holding more cash and liquid assets than debt. This financial health provides strategic flexibility for potential acquisitions.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying D-Wave Quantum?

Accelerating Growth Through Acquisition and Contracts

A key development that could further drive the stock’s performance is the recent completion of the QCI-DRQ technology acquisition. Market experts at TD Cowen view this move as a catalyst that will accelerate D-Wave’s superconducting gate program, significantly broadening its addressable market.

Concurrently, D-Wave has secured a substantial two-year, $10 million Quantum Computing as a Service (QCaaS) contract with an undisclosed Fortune 100 corporation. The company also reported a staggering 314 percent increase in system usage for its Advantage2 quantum computers over a one-year period.

Upcoming Financial Disclosure

Investors are awaiting the next key milestone: D-Wave is scheduled to release its fourth-quarter and full-year 2025 financial results before the market opens on Thursday, February 26. The earnings release will be followed by a conference call where management will discuss operational performance and future guidance.
