DeFi Technologies: A $62.7 Million Profit That the Market Refuses to Price In

The disconnect between a company’s financial health and its stock price rarely gets starker than this. DeFi Technologies just reported a net profit of $62.7 million for fiscal 2025, a dramatic swing from the prior year’s loss, while its shares trade within a hair’s breadth of a 52-week low.

On Friday, the stock closed at €0.3424, down 2.39% on the session and just 0.47% above its fresh yearly trough of €0.3408. Over the past twelve months, the equity has shed 86.86% of its value. Year-to-date, the decline stands at 47.24%.

The numbers from the balance sheet tell an entirely different story. Revenue surged to $99.1 million, fueled by growth in the Valour ETP platform and an expansion of institutional services. Management has also been building a bitcoin treasury strategy, positioning the cryptocurrency as the firm’s primary reserve asset — a play that in theory should allow the company to benefit twice from any rally in the digital asset.

Yet the market is having none of it. The stock’s technical picture is unequivocally oversold: the 14-day relative strength index sits at 25.1, well below the 30 threshold that typically signals exhausted selling pressure. At the same time, the share price trades 54.56% below its 200-day moving average of €0.7535, underscoring that the downtrend remains firmly intact.

A Defensive Playbook From the Boardroom

Management has not been idle as the stock slides. At the annual general meeting in late June, finalized on July 7, 2026, shareholders approved several defensive measures. The board received authorization for a reverse stock split — a move that retail investors often view with suspicion but that can become a strategic necessity at these price levels to maintain listing requirements and attract institutional interest. The meeting also passed a bylaw amendment requiring advance notice for board nominations, adding a layer of protection against sudden takeover attempts during this fragile period.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying DeFi Technologies?

The more immediate tool in the company’s arsenal is its ongoing share buyback program. The Normal Course Issuer Bid permits DeFi Technologies to repurchase up to 10% of its free-float shares, and it runs until August 26, 2026. Management has repeatedly stated that the current price does not reflect the underlying value of the business. Whether the company will aggressively deploy its remaining buyback capacity in the weeks ahead could determine whether the €0.3408 level holds or breaks.

The Clock Is Ticking

With the buyback authorization expiring in roughly one month, the pressure is on. The annualized 30-day volatility stands at 53.06%, reflecting the nervous trading conditions surrounding the stock. No new catalysts are on the immediate horizon — the next regular financial report is not expected until mid-August.

The first quarter of 2026 already showed a profitable core business, with revenue of $11.2 million and net income of $4.9 million. But the market is currently pricing in the risks of an 86.86% decline from the 52-week high, not the operational substance beneath it.

Two factors will likely determine what happens next. First, the stock’s correlation to the broader crypto market: as a bridge between traditional finance and digital assets, DeFi Technologies is sensitive to any recovery in major cryptocurrencies. Second, whether management uses its remaining buyback authority before the August 26 deadline to create a floor under the share price.

For now, the situation remains what it has been for months: a company posting record profits while its stock scrapes a record low. The coming trading days will test whether the buyback program can provide enough friction to halt a near-nine-month downtrend, or whether the €0.3408 level is merely a waystation on the path to lower ground.
