Deutsche Telekom’s Strategic Moves: Share Buybacks and Satellite Venture Fuel Growth

Deutsche Telekom is demonstrating financial strength through a substantial share repurchase initiative, backed by solid operational performance. As its U.S. division continues to deliver reliable growth, a new satellite partnership and a proposed dividend increase provide additional momentum. The key question for investors is whether the Bonn-based telecom giant can sustain this pace throughout the current year.

Robust Annual Figures Underpin Capital Returns

The foundation for the company’s capital allocation strategy is its strong 2025 full-year results. Group revenue saw organic growth of 4.2%, reaching 119.1 billion euros. Once again, the primary driver was subsidiary T-Mobile US, which reported service revenue growth of nearly eight percent. The domestic German market presented a more nuanced picture: while overall revenue saw a slight decline, adjusted operating profit improved to 10.7 billion euros.

Shareholders are set to benefit directly from this earnings power. For the concluded fiscal year, the board has proposed an eleven percent dividend increase to 1.00 euro per share, scheduled for payment on April 8.

A Multi-Billion Euro Buyback Program in Motion

Supporting the share price, the company is actively withdrawing its own equity from the market. In the first week of March alone, it acquired over one million of its own shares, worth approximately 38.1 million euros. Since the beginning of January, buybacks have totaled more than 12.3 million shares.

This activity is part of a program worth up to two billion euros, slated to run through 2026, aimed at increasing earnings per share for remaining stockholders. This consistent demand is reflected in the recent share performance. Trading at a current level of 32.67 euros, the stock has posted a solid gain of over 17 percent since the start of the year and is trading just over five percent below its 52-week high.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Deutsche Telekom?

Future-Proofing with Satellite Technology

Beyond the financial metrics, Deutsche Telekom is making strategic technological investments for the future. In a partnership with Starlink, the company plans to introduce Direct-to-Cell technology in Germany and other European markets starting in spring 2028.

This hybrid network is designed to automatically connect mobile customers to the satellite network when terrestrial signals fail. The initiative is expected to significantly enhance network coverage for over 140 million customers while also providing greater resilience during extreme weather events or power outages.

Maintaining Operational Momentum

Management has signaled its intention to maintain operational speed with an ambitious forecast for 2026. The company anticipates that its adjusted operating profit will increase by approximately seven percent on a currency-adjusted basis, reaching around 47.4 billion euros.

The realism of these targets will begin to crystallize in the coming weeks. The Annual General Meeting on April 1 will be a key event, followed by the release of first-quarter figures on May 13, which will offer the first concrete insight into the operational dynamics of the new year.
