Nokia’s AI-Driven Strategy Fuels Stock Surge and Market Confidence

Nokia’s shares have embarked on a significant upward trajectory in recent weeks, currently trading at a 52-week high. Since the start of the year, the Finnish network equipment provider’s stock has recorded a gain of approximately 29 percent. This momentum is largely attributed to the company’s evolving artificial intelligence strategy, which is now transitioning from theoretical plans into tangible operational deployment.

Financial Performance and Strategic Realignment

The company’s 2025 fiscal year presented a mixed picture. Revenue saw a modest increase of nearly 3.5 percent, reaching 19.89 billion euros. However, profit experienced a sharp decline of about 49 percent. Looking ahead to 2026, Nokia is targeting a comparable operating result in the range of 2.0 to 2.5 billion euros. This forecast is underpinned by a strategic refocusing centered on AI-RAN (AI-powered Radio Access Networks).

To streamline operations and capitalize on what CEO Justin Hotard termed the “AI supercycle,” Nokia recently restructured its organization. The corporate framework has been consolidated from four main segments down to two. Despite this strategic optimism, the company faces headwinds from current supply chain constraints. Prices for critical memory components have surged dramatically; DRAM costs rose by up to 95 percent in Q1 2026 compared to the previous quarter, while NAND flash memory became roughly 60 percent more expensive. These increases are putting noticeable pressure on network equipment manufacturers like Nokia.

The NVIDIA Partnership Bears Fruit

A central catalyst for Nokia’s renewed market appeal is its strategic alliance with NVIDIA. The chipmaking giant invested one billion US dollars in Nokia to co-develop AI-RAN technology and accelerate the transition from 5G to 6G networks.

This collaboration is already yielding concrete results. At the Mobile World Congress 2026, Nokia demonstrated substantial progress, including successful functional tests of GPU-accelerated AI-RAN systems and new customer integrations. A pilot project with T-Mobile in Seattle utilized Nokia’s AirScale technology to support applications such as video streaming, generative AI queries, and AI-based video captioning. Furthermore, a landmark first AI-RAN-supported 5G Layer-3 call was successfully completed in Southeast Asia in partnership with Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison. This achievement proved that AI and RAN workloads can run simultaneously on shared GPU infrastructure.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Nokia?

The roster of network operators adopting AI-RAN technologies is expanding and now includes BT, Elisa, NTT DOCOMO, and Vodafone. According to analysis from Omdia, the cumulative addressable market volume for the RAN segment is projected to exceed 200 billion US dollars by 2030.

Institutional Interest and Upcoming Milestones

Recent activity in the investment community signals growing institutional confidence. FMR LLC now holds 5.26 percent of Nokia’s voting rights, while Jefferies Financial Group initiated a position of approximately 955,000 shares in the third quarter. On the corporate front, Nokia has expanded its partnership with TIM Brasil, agreeing to modernize the operator’s 5G network across 14 additional Brazilian states, a project expected to reach around 42 percent of the country’s population.

In a separate transaction, Senior Manager Raghav Sahgal sold 150,000 shares on March 10 at an average price of 6.71 euros, a move reported as compliant with regulatory requirements.

All eyes are now on the quarterly results scheduled for release at the end of April. This report will provide crucial insight into whether the advances in AI-RAN are beginning to positively impact margins or if rising component costs continue to hinder the recovery path.
