The disconnect between OHB’s operational trajectory and its stock market performance has become one of the more puzzling stories in European aerospace. The Bremen-based space group closed Friday at €186.00, having shed 27% of its value over the past month — a slide that has continued unabated even as the company secures landmark contracts and institutional backing.
The most recent development arrived on 27 August, when OHB announced that its subsidiary Rocket Factory Augsburg had signed an agreement with the European Space Agency under the European Launcher Challenge. The deal places the small-launcher developer firmly within ESA’s push to cultivate homegrown alternatives to the dominance of private US players in the launch market — a strategically significant position given Europe’s well-documented scarcity of independent launch capacity.
That announcement followed hard on the heels of a far larger prize. Just days earlier, OHB had inked a contract worth nearly €1 billion with SES for 18 satellite platforms under the EU’s IRIS² programme. The response from investors? A modest 1.6% gain. The pattern is consistent: an Earth-observation mission contract from the Italian space agency ASI for PRISMA Second Generation, announced in late July, was followed by a 19.1% decline in the share price over the subsequent month.
A Changing Shareholder Base
Part of the market’s caution can be traced to a €484 million capital increase completed in early August, which saw OHB issue 1,613,023 new shares. The move has visibly reshaped the ownership structure: the Fuchs family retains its majority with 60.3%, while private equity firm KKR has taken a 19.7% stake through its Orchid Lux HoldCo vehicle, matching the free float.
The fresh capital arrives at a moment when the underlying business is demonstrably strengthening. First-half 2026 figures showed total output rising 11% year-on-year to €628 million, while adjusted EBITDA climbed 31% to €60 million, with the corresponding margin improving from 8.2% to 9.6%. Management has reaffirmed its full-year guidance of roughly €1.4 billion in total output and an adjusted EBITDA margin between 10.5% and 11%.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying OHB SE?
Structural Milestones Amid Technical Weakness
The order book stands at a record high, supplemented by a project pipeline of some €20 billion in potential new business. That substance has begun to register in the company’s market status: OHB was added to the SDAX index on 13 August, replacing Klöckner & Co., with a move into the TecDAX anticipated at the next regular index review in September.
The corporate activity extends to portfolio consolidation as well. OHB has acquired the remaining 30% stake in MT Aerospace AG, becoming the sole shareholder of that subsidiary.
Yet the technical picture remains unambiguously weak. The shares now trade 23% below their 50-day moving average of €241.52 and well under the 200-day average of €258.79. The relative strength index stands at 35.2, pointing to oversold conditions without any sign of a trend reversal. From the 52-week high of €688.00 reached on 21 May, the stock has more than halved.
Analyst Confidence Meets Market Caution
One voice of encouragement came on 26 August, when Oddo BHF initiated coverage with an “Outperform” rating and a price target of €290 — implying substantial upside from current levels. The bank’s optimism, however, collides with persistent volatility: at 77% on an annualised basis, the market is clearly struggling to price the torrent of news emanating from Bremen.
Notably, the third quarter of 2026 has seen no significant insider buying or selling, suggesting management itself is not signalling distress. For shareholders, the puzzle remains unresolved: revenue growth, margin expansion, a record backlog, index promotion and now ESA backing for the launcher business — all set against a share price that keeps drifting lower, with the market seemingly focused on volatility and dilution rather than the improving fundamentals.
