XPeng’s Global Ambition: A Dual Strategy of Market Expansion and AI Pivot

Chinese electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer XPeng is executing a clear two-pronged strategy to evolve beyond its domestic roots. The company is accelerating its international footprint while simultaneously orchestrating a fundamental transformation into a technology-driven “Physical AI” enterprise, aiming to secure its position in an intensely competitive industry.

International Growth Targets and Product Adaptation

A key pillar of this strategy is geographical diversification. XPeng is set to launch in the Mexican market this Wednesday, marking a significant step in its Latin American expansion. The initial offerings will be the G6 and G9 models. This move is part of a broader goal to double the contribution of international sales to its total revenue, targeting 20% by the end of 2026. For context, overseas markets accounted for approximately 10% of deliveries in the previous year, equating to around 45,000 vehicles.

Recognizing the varied infrastructure challenges in new markets, XPeng is not relying solely on pure battery-electric vehicles for its global push. The automaker is also introducing extended-range electric vehicles (EREVs) in parallel to cater to regions with less developed charging networks and diverse consumer preferences.

Leveraging Technology for Financial Stability

Beyond selling cars, XPeng is increasingly monetizing its proprietary technology. Analysts at Bernstein noted this shift, highlighting the partnership with Volkswagen as a foundational blueprint. The collaboration reached a milestone in early March with the scheduled launch of the first model, the ID.UNYX 08, built on a jointly developed platform. For XPeng, such licensing agreements provide a high-margin, recurring revenue stream. This is particularly valuable for stabilizing its core business in the Chinese domestic market, which remains characterized by fierce price competition and reductions in government subsidies.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying XPeng?

Ambitious Delivery Goals and Product Pipeline

To fuel its growth, XPeng has set an ambitious global delivery target of 550,000 to 600,000 vehicles for the current year. Achieving this would represent growth of up to 40%. The company plans to support this volume with the introduction of seven new models throughout the year. This refreshed lineup will include affordable SUVs from its Mona series and the three-row flagship GX.

The “Physical AI” Vision and Current Market Sentiment

The long-term corporate vision involves a comprehensive reorientation towards becoming a leader in “Physical AI.” This encompasses advanced projects like robotaxis and humanoid robots. Construction has already begun on a new production facility in Guangzhou dedicated to these efforts. Furthermore, a broader rollout of the new VLA 2.0 model is anticipated by the end of March.

However, these future-oriented plans have yet to resonate with investors in the near term. The stock has faced significant pressure, tumbling more than 12% over the past seven trading sessions. Shares are currently priced at 15.20 Euros. Technical indicators suggest a deeply oversold condition, with the Relative Strength Index (RSI) standing at 22.2, well below the threshold typically indicating a potential rebound.
