Analyst Optimism Surges for First Solar’s Growth Trajectory

The solar energy sector is experiencing unprecedented momentum, and First Solar stands positioned for substantial gains from this trend. Multiple financial institutions have recently issued significant price target increases, fueling investor enthusiasm for the solar technology company. The central question remains whether the industry pioneer can deliver on these elevated expectations.

Strong Quarterly Performance Underpins Confidence

First Solar’s impressive second-quarter 2025 results have provided concrete justification for the growing market optimism. The company reported earnings per share of $3.18, substantially exceeding projections of $2.68. Revenue performance similarly surpassed expectations, climbing to $1.1 billion against forecasts of $1.03 billion.

Perhaps more significantly, the company’s production capacity in the United States is fully committed through 2028. This long-term visibility provides both investors and market analysts with considerable confidence in the company’s stable growth outlook. For the full 2025 fiscal year, management anticipates earnings between $13.50 and $16.50 per share.

Financial Institutions Revise Targets Upward

The analyst community has responded to these strong fundamentals with notable price target adjustments. Susquehanna dramatically raised its target from $222 to $273—representing a substantial 23 percent increase. This revision comes after the firm had maintained its $222 target as recently as September.

Simultaneously, Robert W. Baird elevated its expectations from $240 to $264 per share. This upward movement continues a trend that began in September when JPMorgan Chase increased its target to $262 on September 19. Deutsche Bank followed in early October, establishing a $255 price objective. The current consensus average among analysts now stands at $238—nearly 15 percent higher than previous estimates.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying First Solar?

Regulatory Challenges and Technological Advantages

Despite the overwhelmingly positive sentiment, potential regulatory hurdles remain. News emerged just yesterday that the Esmeralda Seven project in Nevada has been halted, directly resulting from new permitting requirements for solar installations at the state level.

However, First Solar’s technological differentiation may provide competitive insulation against such challenges. The company’s thin-film modules represent a lower-carbon alternative to conventional silicon-based panels, ideally positioning the corporation within the global energy transition landscape.

Critical Earnings Release Approaches

Market attention now focuses intently on October 30, when First Solar will disclose third-quarter results. The conference call scheduled for 10:30 PM CET is anticipated to provide not only detailed performance data but also crucial guidance about the company’s ability to maintain its growth trajectory.

First Solar shares currently trade approximately 3.5 percent below their 52-week peak. Given the ambitious targets set by financial analysts, significant potential upside appears to remain. The investment community now awaits confirmation that the company can convert analyst optimism into sustained financial performance.
